Skill System Done
Posted on Monday, February 24, 2003 at 8:48 PM by War Lord

Skill system is finished. Some more maps a couple other minor things and beta should be able to begin. Anything new to add or fix can be done with the auto patcher.

Beta: Phase 1 Sign Ups Closed
Posted on Monday, February 24, 2003 at 5:32 PM by War Lord

I recieved more than 200 beta submissions. I feel that this is going to be more than enough. You will all recieve an e-mail probably the day before the actual test begins confirming your account. I'd like to thank all of the people who signed up. I hope this will be a great phase of testing.

Ignorance?
Posted on Sunday, February 23, 2003 at 5:40 PM by War Lord

I was hoping I wouldn't have to go through the same stuff as I did when we were getting Zelda Classic off the ground, however it seems I will. If you are going to post message on the forums or send me an e-mail saying something about the copyrighted graphics, don't waste your time, it'll be deleted either place. I doubt these FF graphics last past beta anyway. While we're at it, check out Zelda Classic if you somehow haven't played it yet. Over a million downloads and counting...

Options Menu
Posted on Saturday, February 22, 2003 at 11:37 PM by War Lord

Finally got around to working on the game options.
You can turn off/on the following items in the options menu:

  • Player Names

  • Music

  • Sound Effects

I didn't get much time to work on a lot today. The only other major item was adding a flag to maps that keeps NPCs from walking onto certain spots. Works great to keep them out of towns or wandering out of dungeons, heh.

New Interface!
Posted on Saturday, February 22, 2003 at 12:21 AM by War Lord

I posted 2 new screenshots, one of the new interface, and one of the interface with the resurrection button visible. To resurrect now rather than typing commands. You target an NPC capable of resurrection and then click the button.

Beta: Phase 1 Sign Ups
Posted on Friday, February 21, 2003 at 3:34 PM by War Lord

The webpage to reserve your account to be a tester in the very first phase of testing for Shattered Earth is up.
You can navigate there by the menu on the left or by clicking here. I am still unsure as to when the beta will take place, but it will be soon, as we move closer and closer every day.

Simplicity is best
Posted on Friday, February 21, 2003 at 4:11 AM by War Lord

I simplified resurrection earlier.
On the old system, you died, then targeted an npc capable of resurrecting you. Then typed /resurrect.
With the new system, when you die, a button appears on the GUI.
You target an NPC capable of resurrecting, then press the button. It then disappears and you resurrect. Easy?
Flash Man is making some graphics for the buttons to use instead of text as well.
Should have some new screenshots of the improved GUI tomorrow.

Skills Update
Posted on Thursday, February 20, 2003 at 1:42 PM by War Lord

I added a magery skill, basically it'll be a modifier in determining how powerful your spells are. Spells will be level based. You start with all spells, but must be a certain level to cast this spell or that spell. Magery will then determine how powerful it is. For instance, if you have 0 Magery skill, and cast the Level 1 heal spell, you'll heal a little bit, but if you have magery maxed out at 10, you'll heal much more.

Skills Update

I have the dodging skill in and working.
I figure 10 will be the maximum amount you can add to any skill.
Having Dodging maxed out allows you to dodge attacks 50% of the time.
I'll keep you guys posted.

Small Test Last Night
Posted on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at 5:36 PM by War Lord

Mottzilla, Warlock, Shadowblazer and I all hopped onto the server last night and tested some stuff out and generally messed around. The castle is now fully done, inside and out, which is a big section out of the way. I took a couple screenshots. Here and Here. I didn't get any screenshots with Shadowblazer, however he had a sweet little girl as his character for a while. Perhaps he got some screenshots.

Skills Update
Posted on Monday, February 17, 2003 at 10:36 PM by War Lord

I worked more on the skills system today, coding what they'll actually do. So for, Mercantile is done. Depending on the amount of points you have in it, you buy or sell items higher or lower than usual.

Player Names
Posted on Monday, February 17, 2003 at 3:19 AM by War Lord

I got player names working tonight. Perhaps it was just lack of caffiene the other night that prevented it. There's a screenshot of it on the second screenshot page, or you can click to it here.

In Development: Skill System
Posted on Sunday, February 16, 2003 at 1:22 AM by War Lord

I added a skill system page to the in development section of the website. Check it out for some basic information.

I updated the screenshots page with a picture of the skills window. I'll post more detailed information on the whole system tomorrow.

Skill System
Posted on Saturday, February 15, 2003 at 10:59 PM by War Lord

I've made very good progress on the skills system. It's all in and so far working. I'll try to post some detailed information on it in a couple hours.

Main Menu Picture

I posted a picture of the main menu on the screenshotsshould i lease buy a car page. It'll show you what the main menu interface is like. Radium did an awesome job.

Player Names Update
Posted on Thursday, February 13, 2003 at 11:08 PM by War Lord

I had player names partially working, but there were a few things that were going to cause problems with it. Guess that feature goes back to the drawing board.

Player Names
Posted on Thursday, February 13, 2003 at 1:59 PM by War Lord

I decided this morning I'd start working on allowing players to show player names over everyone's head. I am going to include a toggle in the game options to turn this feature off and on. I figure this can be my project for the day as I'm not sure how easy it's gonna be.

System Requirements
Posted on Thursday, February 13, 2003 at 3:08 AM by War Lord

I just updated the minimum system requirements. Thanks to Zaphod for helping me test that out.

Auto Patcher Complete
Posted on Thursday, February 13, 2003 at 1:27 AM by War Lord

I finished coding the Auto Patcher today. It mimics the Ultima Online updater visually. It gave me numerous headaches while coding it, but I feel relieved that it's done. Being able to update the client and associated files to you guys without much effort on my part will be great.

Welcome!
Posted on Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at 4:52 PM by War Lord

Welcome to the launch of the official Shattered Earth web site. Shattered Earth has been a long time in the making. 2 and a half years to be exact. Though work wasn't done constantly throughout that time. The project was worked on for a little while, and then I dropped it due to the overwhelming amount of work and no one to help me with it all. I recently began work again, and progress is being made at great speed. I expect beta testing to begin in the near future. Whether or not it will be open or closed testing is still undecided.
